Coffin Joe returns!

After 40 years, Brazilian filmmaker Jose Mojica Marins returned to the horror character that made him an icon in his own country – and a cult legend throughout the world decades later. In Embodiment of Evil, Marins brought back Coffin Joe, the sadistic megalomaniac intent on finding the perfect woman to bear his son.

On Feb. 9 Synapse will release this new entry in the saga begun in At Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. For details head on over to the Synapse website.

The PFS hosted some of the first US public screenings of Marins’ work back in the 1990s, and we’ve always been fascinated by his mix of twisted psychology and spook show visuals, especially in the Coffin Joe films. We’re happy to hear that his latest epic (his first film as director in 20 years) will be getting such slick treatment.
